Arua is arguably one of the most significant places for the opposition leader as it was here that his supporters had a deadly run-in with President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy, which resulted in the death of his driver Yasin Kawuma in August 2018.

In the wake of the clash in which his supporters allegedly smashed the rear windscreen of President Museveni’s vehicle, Bobi Wine was arrested and arraigned before the military court. He was charged with treason and illegal possession of firearms.

The charges were later dropped by the court for lack of evidence.

But five years down the road, two of his vehicles that were impounded in the chaos have yet to be released back to him.

The cars, a Toyota Tundra registration number UAT 416X, a Toyota Land Cruiser number UAW 207A remain impounded at Arua Police Station to date.

Addressing the press this Wednesday morning ahead of his procession, Bobi Wine was asked about the fate of the vehicles, but he brushed off the matter as insignificant.

Yes, for the last five years my cars have been impounded in Arua illegally even when the court ordered for them to be released back to me they refused,” he said.

"But the issue of the cars is not important because I am just one person; this a struggle to save all Ugandans, not just one individual."

After the press conference, Bobi Wine set off to hold a procession in the city center where, as has been in other areas he’s been so far, scores of people lined the streets to welcome him.
