Bungingo told President Museveni that his support for Gen. Kainerugaba is unequivocal.
According to Bugingo who heads the House of Prayer Ministries International, Museveni can lead as long as he wants, but when he finally hands over power, Gen. Kainerugaba will be the successor.
"Your excellency, the president of the Republic of Uganda, let no one deceive you that Bugingo no longer supports you, and started supporting Muhoozi. If I told you that I don't like Muhoozi, I would be a rascal," Bugingo said in a video seen by this reporter.
"You'll resign when you want, but Muhoozi is next."
Gen. Kainerugaba, who is the son of President Museveni and his advisor on special operations, prompted polarising discussions, especially in the ruling NRM party, when he subtly declared his presidential ambitions.
By President Museveni not declaring when he is leaving power, his son's aspirations have pitted their supporters against each other while some have opted for silence.
The president himself hasn't declared that he is opposed to Gen. Kainerugaba replacing him in the State House, but some long-serving members of the NRM like Internal Affairs Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and junior ones like Minister Evelyn Anite have vehemently opposed the idea, calling President Museveni to run again.
For the vast majority of 2022, supporters of Gen. Kainerugaba have been holding numerous campaigns aimed at promoting the former Commander of Land Forcers whom they call the "supreme generational leader". Others call him the "standby generator."
