Many social media users have come out to condemn Gashumba and disparage him for making those remarks, accusing him of supporting the so-called Muhoozi project over the real struggle of the people of Uganda.
While appearing on on Cavton Music UG podcast on Tuesday, May 3, Gashumba had no kind words for NUP.
"The only person who has struggled to free the oppressed poor people of Uganda is Dr Kizza Besigye. He has been arrested 736 times in the 20 years he's been a political activist. All these other people claiming to be in 'the struggle' are conning Ugandans," he said.
Gashumba added, "The same people who tell us that they are removing the dictator are boat cruises every weekend. The same people are hosting weddings every weekend, going to take Instagram pictures in south Africa, they have the same military protection as the army commander. The struggle we must engage in is to save the leadership of NUP from the dictators bed."
Gashumba, in the same podcast, stated that Muhoozi wants to be president and it is clear from his social media messaging, particulalry on Twitter, adding that those who don't want him to be president are free to stop him.
"During the swearing in ceremony in 2021, Museveni stated that this is the time for the children of the fighters to take over the revolution. He went ahead and appointed five children of fighters, ministers in his government. If the children of the fighters are now ministers, what about the son of the president?" he paused a rhetorical question.
These words didn't go well with social media users, and here are some of the tweets that have condemned Gashumba's take on the matter:
