Mulwana, known for his popular political campaign song Toka Kwa Barabara, which he sang for FDC’s Col Dr Kizza Besigye in 2016, passed away in the wee hours of Tuesday.
He was reportedly rushed to a clinic in Makindye after he collapsed in his bathroom, and was declared dead on arrival at the health facility.
One of his brothers, a one Mubajje told reporters that he had spoken with the deceased hours earlier at around lunchtime on Monday, where he told him that he had a mild fever.
“He told me that he was going to be okay, only to be called in the night that he was gone,’ Mubajje said.
“We are all in shock.”
Fellow artist Hajj Haruna Mubiru said Mulwana, who has been battling liver complications for a while, seemed to be doing fine recently.
“He seemed fine….like he was actually recovering. He even went out with his fellow musicians to perform in Gulu last week,” Mubiru said.
Mubiru has been taking care of Mulwana and helping him get treatment since last year. The deceased had for months complained of being poisoned by one of his fans.
Last year, House Speaker Anita Among gave him Shs 10million to help with his treatment.
Talking about his last moments, Mubiru said the deceased yesterday complained about a running stomach, which weakened him significantly.
“I was told that he got very weak and that he collapsed in his bathroom. They rushed him to Doctor’s Clinic” and they were told that he had already passed on,” Mubiru said.
Although the family had not decided on the burial arrangements, Hajj Mubiru said the body will spend this night at the National Theater where fellow artists will mourn him.
Burial is expected to take place at his ancestral home in Luwero.
