According to the police and family members, the deceased went missing from his farm in Bugiri District. He was the brother of Justine Kazungu of State House, Dr. Waiswa Kazungu of Mulago Hospital/Makerere University, and others.
The deceased was last observed driving his Toyota Premio, with the licence plate UAP 916B, towards his farm in Nandelema Village, Kapyanga sub-county, Bugiri District, Diana Nandaula, the spokeswoman for Busoga East Police, said.
Nandaula explained in a telephone interview on Tuesday that, "on Monday, the daughter reported to Bugiri Central Police Station that her dad is missing and that they were receiving calls demanding a sh20 million ransom."
The car was later located in Nandelema Village and taken to the Bugiri Police Station for processing, according to Nandaula.
However, on Tuesday morning, a foul smell and flies attracted locals to an unfinished pit latrine, where they discovered the body with his legs bound with ropes.
Nandaula claimed that the deceased was last seen on the farm conversing with his casual workers, who are now all missing and are at the top of the list of potential suspects.
The sporadic workers aren't present, so Nandaula asserted, "We suspect that they may know something about the incident."
When the deceased vanished on Saturday morning, the family believed he had left for a seminar and tried to track him down, according to a source close to the family who asked to remain anonymous.
