Bobi Wine on Wednesday reacted angrily to the initiative taken by Hon Nsereko to raise funds to clear the accumulating medical bill of the Kawempe North MP.

Bobi Wine accused Nsereko of not only trying to embarrass the NUP but also building his political capital from the suffering of a fellow MP.

Hon Ssegirinya is undergoing treatment for Skin Cancer and a host of other health complications in The Netherlands.

Early this week, the Kawempe MP came out to complain about being abandoned by Parliament.

He said his medical bill had since surged to over Shs. 80million and yet he might remain admitted for the next two months.

Hon Nsereko in response, launched a fundraiser on his Facebook page to rescue the ailing colleague. He also personally contributed Shs 5 million to the cause.

This, however, angered the NUP establishment, as they deemed the intervention as demeaning.

Addressing the press at the party offices yesterday, Wednesday, President Bobi Wine said Nsereko’s intervention was not well-intended.

This is the same guy who forced the late Kato Lubwama to make mistakes and now he’s tried the same with Hon Ssegirinya,” Wine said.

I think that as a respected MP, Hon Nsereko knows the right thing to do but he just chooses to do that which he is not supposed to. What he did was intended to embarrass our MP.

The NUP Principal also revealed that he called Hon Ssegirinya and told him that it was wrong for him to accept being “reduced to the level of begging.”

We as leaders hold him in high regard and so do the people who voted for him. It is unfortunate that even in his sickness, some people wish to use it as political capital.

Although Hon Nsereko left for treatment without informing the party, Bobi Wine said efforts are underway to help him with his bill.

Parliament through Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa also announced yesterday that it has initiated the process of having Ssegirinya’s medical bill paid through insurance.
