Gashumba mocks Bobi Wine injury claims

As news unfolded about the incident in which Bobi Wine sustained an injury to his leg, conflicting accounts from the scene sparked interesting discussions online.

While Bobi Wine and his party claimed he was shot, Police cited a different narrative from the scene.

Quoting police officers at the scene, the Uganda Police spokesperson said the opposition leader could have injured himself while trying to get into his vehicle.

Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot,” said the Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke.

Some social media users rushed to poke holes in the NUP account of the incident.

Frank Gashumba was among the doubting Thomases, implying the nature of the injury was exaggerated.

He posted "China Town Bullet" on his X account, along with a picture of what appears to be a minor injury on Bobi Wine's leg.

A person handling Bobi Wine's X account stated that the NUP President was "clearly targeted and shot in the leg."

Police promised a full scale investigation of the incident in a statement.

The Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke released the following statement on the incident:

Today 03 September 2024, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert was invited by Mr. George Musisi (Lawyer), to a Thanksgiving ceremony in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.

2. Hon. Kyagulanyi participated in the celebration, which concluded peacefully.

3.When Hon. Kyagulanyi left the venue, he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town; however, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.

4.During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries.

5.Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot. investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts.

6.He was taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.

7.The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents. END
