The minister yesterday, described as “fake news” the media reports that she stormed out of the cabinet retreat last week, and later on fled the country to Canada.

Reports claimed that Anite prematurely left the weeklong cabinet retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) when she was confronted by investors alleging that she solicited bribes from them.

It was further reported that from Kyankwanzi, she flew to Canada.

Minister Anite however, clarified yesterday that she was still on leave.

She also blamed the reports on “corrupt officials” in government who are spooked by her recent anti-corruption campaign.

This is how the corrupt fight back, I expect them to write more fake stories like this,” she said.

When I was fighting the corrupt in UTL they wrote that I ran to exile in USA. Now this.”

Over the past week, Hon Anite went head to head with big government officials including the head of the Uganda Investment Authority Robert Mukiza and other senior officials, accusing them of illegally awarding themselves UGX 500m Honoraria out of a loan meant for the Namanve Infrastructure Development.

The Minister also threatened to participate in the “Stop-Corruption March to Parliament” which is scheduled for next week

The protest has since been cancelled by police although organisers insist it will carry on as planned.

Meanwhile, reports that Hon Anite fell out with her own government were fueled by her decision to edit her bio on X.

The bio which previously introduced her as the State Minister of Finance in Charge of Investment and Privatisation, now simply reads, “This is the official account of AnitE”

She also replaced the cover photo on her profile in which she posed with President Museveni, to a simple headshot of herself.

When asked by her followers why she removed the president from her profile, Anite said this was her prerogative, since this was her personal account.

“So, was it an official account or a Government of Uganda account? Stupidity will never end,” she responded to one of the commentators.

It is understood that the minister alsomcompelled at least one of the online media outlets to pull down a story about the Kyankanzi retreat and the alleged travel to Canada
