President Yoweri Museveni has reportedly signed off the release of opposition activists who have been languishing in prison for four years.

Presidential Advisor Jennifer Nakanguubi aka Full Figure says she personally convinced the president recently to grant the release of the young activists, some of whom are facing grave charges before the General Court Martial.

The majority of the jailed activities were arrested on different dates during the campaigns for the 2021 elections.

She said those set to be released include Muhydin Sanya Kakooza, Isma Machete and Olivia Lutaaya, who has seen many women of different political shades call for her release on social media.

Early this year at a press conference in Entebbe, former State House Press Secretary Sarah Kagingo made a personal appeal to the president to release Ms Lutaaya.

Full Figure, while speaking on her morning show on Salt TV on Wednesday, said the President had tasked her to take the lead on the release of the activists.

I stood before him and spoke for those people…and he agreed to free them. He told me that I was now their surety and that they must promise not repeat their mistakes,” she said.

The President told me to work with Col Susan from the Court Martial to handle this matter.

The Makindye Court Martial was supposed to sit yesterday, Tuesday for the bail hearing of some of the NUP activities but the session was postponned to next week, September 24.
