The advice was given by Lt. Col. Onesmus Amanya, Deputy Director in charge of Pensions, during an ongoing documentation and sensitisation exercise at Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja.
The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) non-commissioned officers set to retire at the end of this month have been cautioned to stay alert against scams targeting their pensions and gratuities.

Speaking to soldiers from the UPDF Air Force, Special Forces Command, and Magamaga Cantonment, Lt. Col. Amanya urged the retirees to remain vigilant against fraudsters who may attempt to exploit their retirement benefits.
He reassured them that the pension payment process has improved, promising timely and direct disbursements without the need for intermediaries.
Lt Col Amanya also encouraged the retiring officers to maintain a spirit of camaraderie by supporting one another, particularly during difficult times such as covering funeral expenses.
He emphasised the importance of mutual assistance for their continued progress after retirement.
