Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed Nantongo's identity, noting that the tragic incident occurred in Kamuli A’ Zone, Kireka, along the Northern Bypass. The unsettling murder has shaken the routine jogging community.

According to the police, Nantongo was last seen leaving her workplace on Saturday at around 7 P.M., wearing the same clothes that were found on her body the following morning.
"At about 8 A.M. today, passersby found a lifeless woman lying in the roadside shrubbery and notified the authorities," Onyango said. The police swiftly arrived at the scene and began investigations.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Nantongo’s death.
Similar attacks on joggers have happened before. In July 2022, James Kakooza, 54, a local councillor in Kamwokya, Kampala, was killed while jogging near Centenary Park. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigire reported that Kakooza was on his morning run when two men on a motorcycle struck him with a blunt object and fled.
Earlier this year, former Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala, Bishop Zac Niringiye, was also assaulted during his morning jog in Ntinda, Kampala. He was struck from behind by a motorcyclist but survived the attack.
The Uganda Police Force is urging anyone with information regarding Nantongo’s murder to contact Kireka Police Station or any nearby station.
