The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, commissioned an administration block at Ruhengyere Barracks, also known as Camp Rufu, in western Uganda.

Gen. Kainerugaba hailed the 206 Commando Brigade for being true warriors but also for effectively using the little resources they have.

Speaking at the commissioning on Tuesday, April 2, the CDF, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations -- noted that they are “a model unit within the UPDF and we are proud of them."

‘Semiliki House' is named in honour of the first major battle the unit had with the ADF near River Semiliki in Rwebisengo in 2007. At that battle where many ADF were killed, the commandos established their reputation of being hardened warriors that can overcome any enemy.

The commissioning was also attended by the Commander Land Forces Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the Artillery Division Commander Brig. Dan Kakono and Brig. Asaph Mweteise, the Commando brigade commander.

Meanwhile, Gen. Kainerugaba, who took over the office of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on March 28, has vowed to improve the welfare of soldiers by fighting the evil of corruption and mismanagement of resources.

He replaced Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi in a ceremony presided over by the Special Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security and also Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Gen. Caleb Akandwanabo, commonly known as Salim Saleh, at a function held at the 4th Division Headquarters in Gulu.

Mbadi is now the State Minister for Trade.
