The visit centers on discussions about fostering educational and technological exchanges between Uganda and the United States.
The Queen's visit began at Southern University in Louisiana, where discussions centered on collaboration in various sectors.
In her address, Nnabagereka said Buganda has a very young population with the the majority of the people under 40 years old. She discussed the high unemployment rate and the need for more educational programs.
“From the age of 6 to 18. We are trying to instill those values, trying to empower them, give them the tools that they use to be able then to become better citizens in the future,” said Lutswata
State Senator Regina Barrow highlighted agriculture, education, technology, and the significance of fostering international ties in these areas.
Senator Barrow's invitation to the Queen has sparked speculation about a possible exchange program between Southern University and a Ugandan university. Whether the discussions involve Mutesa I Royal University, owned by the Buganda Kingdom, remains unclear.
“We talked about agriculture, we talked about education, and we talked about technology, and why this is so important across the waters,” Senator Barrow remarked, highlighting the global significance of these sectors in fostering international cooperation.
Entrepreneurship was also a significant topic during the discussions, with Calvin Mills Jr., a representative from Nexus Louisiana, pointing out Africa’s plans to invest $10 billion in various technologies.
These sectors include agricultural technology (agtech), financial technology (fintech), and software development. Mills expressed enthusiasm about the potential collaborations, noting that “Africa is looking at multiple technologies from agtech, fintech, software development, and I thought it was something that we could get involved in.”
Tomorrow’s address by the Nnabagereka at the Louisiana State Capitol is anticipated to emphasize the importance of building partnerships across borders.
Following her address, the Queen will participate in an entrepreneurial roundtable, likely to further discussions on innovation, investment, and bilateral cooperation.
