Mr Mateke, who served as the Minister for Regional Affairs in the previous term, hailed his fallen daughter for being down to earth and very hard working.
“I have lost a daughter who was very humble and respected everybody. She was a person who never antagonised anybody. That was not Sarah,” remarked Mzee Mateke at his home in Kisoro.
Followed my footsteps
Mateke, 81 also commended his daughter for following his example of serving with diligence in the politics.
“I have lived a political life…and she emulated me,” he said.
“She used to move all over the district in just one day; that was why people voted for her because she had potential and she showed much of that potential in the few years that she served.”
Hon Sarah Mateke passed away last Saturday morning at Mengo Hospital in Kampala where she was rushed in the wee hours of the morning.
She succumbed to suspected cardiovascular complications.
Parliament this Monday morning held prayers of her at the Parliamentary Building. The service was presided over by the archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
She will be laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kisoro on Thursday.
