The NUP president sought on Monday afternoon to set the record straight about reports that he and his party were at loggerheads with Buganda Kingdom and the King.

The reports stemmed from Kabaka Mutebi's stern message last week in which he called out a group of people for misleading his subjects about his whereabouts and health.

The situation we went through in the past months has led some people, to ignorantly or deliberately disrespect and disregard the traditions of our land (tribe), and act in dishonourable ways, said the King in a message on his coronation day celebrations,” remarked the monarch.

They have done much to misguide our people about the throne and the kingdom. This is dangerous. You must watch out for such people.”

Some interpreted the king's message as being aimed at Bobi Wine and members of his party who publicly questioned Kabaka's whereabouts when he was hospitalised in Germany and Namibia early this year.

Bobi Wine was accused of among others “inciting his supporters in a propaganda campaign that embarrassed Buganda."

But while addressing the matter today, Bobi Wine blamed the ruling government under President Museveni for trying to propagate divisions between him and Buganda kingdom.

Bobi Wine said his message about the life of the King was only a genuine concern to be expected from every Kingdom subject.

I told people to show concern about the whereabouts of the King, but I urged you to be civil when doing that,” he said.

I have seen selfish people trying as hard as they can to drive a wedge between us and the Kingdom of Buganda, especially between me individually and the kingdom.”

I want to remind you that our king loves us as we love him, and he is not ashamed of us because what we do is not embarrassing.

Bobi Wine as such urged the the NUP supporters and the people of Buganda to guard against anybody trying to use the Kabaka's name to push through their agendas.

I assure you that we have a good relationship with the king, the kingdom and the chiefs.”
