John Semwogerere and Bruno Mawejje were arrested after their passenger, Peter Apangu, was found dead in their taxi, registration plate UAU 859L, which was travelling from Katooke, Bwaise to Kampala City.
Police say they have arrested the driver of a commuter taxi and the taxi’s conductor in order to find out more about the death of a passenger in that same taxi.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the investigations into what caused the death of Peter Apangu are gathering steam.
“Central Police Station Kampala is investigating the death of Apangu on Thursday. Apangu was found dead in a taxi UAU 859L that was travelling from Katooke, Bwaise to Kampala City,” Owoyesigyire said.
He revealed that when the taxi allegedly reached Nakivubo Mews, the taxi operators tried to wake up Apangu to pay the taxi fare, only to realise that he was dead.
“Our homicide team has visited the scene and realised the deceased had a swelling on the eye, an indication that he had been beaten or hit. We have conveyed his body to the city mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem,” Owoyesigyire added.
In 2015, the Police's Flying Squad unveiled the identities of twelve suspects who were said to be involved in rampant murders of taxi passengers, taxi drivers and motorists.
Their victims were often kidnapped and killed in various locations around Kampala City and its neighbouring districts.
At the time, the 12 suspects were held at the Central Police Station in Kampala and were said to be operating under their leader, Alex Kawere also known as Sserwanga who, together with his goons, confessed to having kidnapped the said victims and dumped their bodies in various places.
This latest death of Apangu brings to mind the possible resurgence of such criminal gangs, murdering passengers and making away with their belongings.
