The Uganda Martyr's Day Celebrations were held last weekend at the White Fathers' Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The event was a collaborative effort between the Uganda Embassy Rome, the Uganda Embassy to the Holy See, Berlin, the Uganda Ecclesiastical Community in Rome, and the Missionary White Fathers.

The day began with a symposium that explored three missionary perspectives on the Uganda Martyrs and the impact of their canonization on the Church's mission in Africa. The symposium was well-attended and featured presentations from Fr. Anthony Kibira of the Comboni Missionaries, Fr. Wijnand Huys of the Mill Hill Missionaries, and Fr. Richard Nnyombi of the Missionaries of Africa.
Following the symposium, a Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by H.E. Cardinal Francis Arinze, with H.E. Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu also in attendance. The celebration was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the Uganda Martyrs and their significance in the history of the Church in Africa.
In her speech, H.E. Amb. Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, Uganda's Ambassador to Italy, highlighted the profound importance of Martyrs' Day for Uganda, emphasizing the values of courage, faith, and perseverance embodied by the martyrs. The event was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, including ambassadors from Zimbabwe, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Angola, and South Sudan.
The celebrations concluded with a luncheon that brought together guests from around the world, providing an opportunity for reflection, fellowship, and cultural exchange. The event served as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Uganda Martyrs and their continued inspiration to people of all backgrounds and faiths.
