This prestigious recognition is awarded by the United States Department of State to women worldwide for their outstanding courage, strength, and leadership in championing peace, justice, human rights, and gender equity and equality, often facing significant personal risk and sacrifice.

Mrs. Atuhaire, affiliated with Agora Discourse, made a trip to the United States to accept the award personally.

The award was presented to her by the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden.

On social media, she voiced her appreciation to her supporters who played a crucial role in reaching this achievement.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank, from the bottom of my heart, every one of you for the congratulatory messages,” she stated.

“Your faith in me keeps me going even when the struggle gets tougher.”

Atuhaire is deeply committed to holding those in power accountable.

She plays a leading role in the #UgandaParliamentExhibition, an online campaign revealing startling corruption claims against the Ugandan Parliament.

Her disclosures over the last 11 days have caused a deadlock between the main opposition party NUP and its Vice President Mathias Mpuuga.

The campaign has also triggered an investigation by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) into the alleged misuse of public funds by the Parliament, following several complaints from the public regarding the spending of taxpayers' money, as announced by IGG Betty Kamya on Tuesday.

Additionally, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) is conducting its investigation into the Parliament, focusing on, among other things, allegations of money laundering.
