Ugandan youth leader Davis Akampulira has extended an invitation to Russian leader Vladimir Putin to visit Uganda.

This was during a private meeting between Putin and the Ugandan youngster on Monday.

President Putin invited Akampulira for the meeting following their earlier interaction in March this year at the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia.

During that event, Akampulira made a lasting impression on President Putin by addressing the critical issue of global injustices and the role of African youth in combating these challenges.

During the festival, Akampulira, leading a group of 30 Ugandan youths, questioned Putin about his plans for involving African youth in the fight against social injustices perpetuated by Western influences.

Akampulira's advocacy efforts stem from his beginnings as a youth advocate at Makerere University, where he developed a keen interest in promoting the rights and welfare of people across Africa. His bold approach and thoughtful questioning led Putin to extend an invitation for a more private discussion, which culminated in their recent meeting in Moscow.

Invitation to the Pearl of Africa

In yesterday’s meeting, Akampulira extended an invitation to President Putin to visit Uganda, known affectionately as the "Pearl of Africa."

Akampulira took the opportunity to emphasise Uganda's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, expressing hope for increased understanding and collaboration between the two nations.

In addition to cultural exchanges, Akampulira highlighted economic opportunities, particularly in Uganda's renowned coffee industry.

He described Ugandan coffee as the best in the world and urged President Putin to support initiatives that would involve Ugandan youth in the export of coffee to Russia. This move aligns with Akampulira’s vision of creating economic opportunities for young Ugandans through international trade.

President Putin responded positively, acknowledging the superior quality of Ugandan coffee and expressing his willingness to support efforts to enhance the coffee trade between the two countries. He reassured Akampulira of Russia’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure Ugandan youth can benefit from the coffee business.

As discussions and plans continue to unfold, the international community watches closely, recognising the potential impact of this youthful engagement on the future of Uganda-Russia relations and the broader global stage.
