NSSF launches 26th edition of KAVC International Volleyball tournament

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has officially launched the 26th edition of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) International tournament, a significant event aimed at promoting Uganda's local sports talent.

The annual NSSF KAVC Tournament will host 30 teams comprising men and women from local and foreign clubs from four countries: Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda.

The launch event, held at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, was marked by a press conference under the theme "Championing Better Community Health and Behavior Through Sports."

Barbra Arimi Teddy, NSSF's Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, expressed the Fund's pride in contributing to the growth of volleyball in Uganda. The partnership between NSSF and KAVC, now spanning over 15 years, has been instrumental in developing the sport in the region.

Arimi highlighted that the NSSF's support has elevated the tournament to a premier status in East Africa, attracting top clubs from countries such as Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This exposure has provided Ugandan teams with opportunities to compete at higher levels, enhancing the skills of local players. She also announced that NSSF has committed a cash contribution of Shs40 million and an additional Shs5 million in-kind to support this year's tournament.

The KAVC International has grown to become one of the most significant volleyball tournaments in the region, fostering the sport's development in Uganda.

This year's tournament will be hosted at Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Hockey grounds, featuring a broader range of participants, including corporate teams and secondary schools. KAVC President Irene Kiconco revealed that corporate organizations such as DTB, Centenary Bank, URA, NBS, Total Energies EP, ABSA Bank, NWSC, Parliament of Uganda, Uganda Cancer Institute, and Housing Finance Bank, alongside two secondary schools, have confirmed their participation. She thanked NSSF and other sponsors for their unwavering support in making the tournament a success.

In addition to NSSF's significant role as the lead sponsor, other key partners supporting the event include Pallisa Agro-Processors, Pepsi, NBS Sport, Goodlife Pharmacy, Crown Beverages, Fakhruddin Properties, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), the Ministry of Health, and the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF).

The tournament aims to provide a platform for showcasing talent, encouraging community health, and promoting sports as a vehicle for positive behavior and social development.
