According to reports, the strike was triggered by failure of the school administration to use the generator after load shedding failed the broadcast of the second half.

Rowdy students turned violent destroying property around the school in bitterness over the failure to power the generator prompting the school administration to crack the whip.

The students reportedly destroyed valuable property including CCTV surveillance cameras, water pipes, windows, doors, among others. Efforts by the school to bring the students to order fell on deaf ears.

In a letter dated October 23, 2022, the Sebei College head teacher, Frederic Chesang slapped a two-week long suspension to the parents/guardians of the students and a fine of Sh103, 000.

Students in candidate classes were spared owing to the fact that the national examination preparations are in high gear.

“The magnitude of the destruction is big and therefore you are expected to pay Sh103,000 including the bank charge as a cost for repairs. The money should be channeled directly to the school account using school payment codes issued earlier to every student,” he directed the parents.

He added the students behaviour left the administration in shock and they could not meet the fees of repair yet the students were to blame for the losses and failed to understand the situation at hand.

The match ended 1-1 all draw with Chelsea and United finding the back of the net with late goals.
