Toyota boosts 3rd Rwenzori Marathon as 4000 runners descend onto Kasese

The 2024 edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is now just over a fortnight away and organisers are touting it as more spectacular than ever.

  • Toyota by CFAO has been unveiled as a partner for the marathon, providing Hybrid Electric lead cars for the race routes

On Wednesday, Amos Wekesa, marathon Team Lead told reporters that up to 4000 runners, up from 2200 last year and 800 during the first edition.

At least 30 countries are sending in runners for this year’s edition.

“This gives you an idea of how international this marathon has become,” he said.

“This is going to be the only marathon in the world that starts and crosses the equator. We are running in Queen Elizabeth National Park, which has the highest concentration of any protected area in the world.

This is also Uganda’s first marathon to be certified by the World Athletics Federation. That is why so many good runners who are trying to qualify for the different marathons around the world will be flying in. Kasese right now is buzzing with lots of opportunities with a lot of local and international media coverage.”

Wekesa was speaking unveiling of Toyota by CFAO as one of the partners for the marathon.

Toyota will provide Hybrid Electric lead cars for the 42 km and 21 km race routes, enhancing the marathon's commitment to sustainability and innovation.

At a press conference held at the Toyota by CFAO Showroom on 1st Street, Jinja Road, Toyota showcased the two lead cars for the marathon: a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric and a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Electric SUV.

These vehicles, known for their style, comfort, and eco-friendly hybrid technology, combine an electric motor with a gasoline engine, ensuring reduced emissions and a minimized environmental impact.

Wekesa expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration.

"We're excited to have Toyota by CFAO back as our marathon mobility partner! Their support means the world to us and makes a huge difference. With their Hybrid Electric cars leading the way, we look forward to another successful event this year," Wekesa stated.

Isaac Tegule, Marketing Manager of CFAO Mobility, commented, “As CFAO Mobility, we are proud to support an event that fosters community engagement and development while promoting talent discovery. This year, by providing Hybrid Electric vehicles as lead cars, we highlight Toyota’s dedication to sustainability and innovation. The event, organized by Mascob Events, offers tickets priced at 30,000 UGX for ordinary admission, 50,000 UGX for VIP, and tables priced at 1 million UGX and 3 million UGX. As excitement builds and preparations continue, Kasese is abuzz with anticipation, ready to host what promises to be an unforgettable marathon experience.
