Agnes Kirabo

Agnes Kirabo, the Youth MP for Central Region, plans to run for Woman MP in Luwero District.

Singer Mr. Lee, whose real name is Richard Mugisha and is her baby daddy, confirmed her candidacy. A Makerere University graduate with a master’s in Business Administration, Kirabo belongs to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Phiona Nyamutoro

Phiona Nyamutoro, the National Female Youth MP and Minister of State for Minerals, will contest the Nebbi District Woman MP seat.

Her current role allows only a single five-year term. In her 2021 campaign for National Female Youth MP, Nyamutoro won 296 votes, beating Prima Tukamushabe, who got 66 votes.

Gaffa Mbwatekamwa

Gaffa Mbwatekamwa, the Igara West MP, has set his sights on becoming Mbarara City Mayor. An NRM member, he previously represented Kasambya County.

In 2017, he was among nine NRM MPs who opposed the constitutional amendment to scrap the 75-year age limit for President Yoweri Museveni’s eligibility. Born to John and Jolly Gaffa, Mbwatekamwa attended St Michael High School and earned a diploma in secondary education and a bachelor’s in Guidance and Counselling from Kyambogo University, followed by a master’s in Management Studies in 2013.

He is married to Dona Atuhiire, and they have four children.

Ronald Balimwezo

Ronald Balimwezo, the Nakawa East MP, will run for Kampala Lord Mayor, facing off against incumbent Erias Lukwago in 2026.

Betty Amongi

Betty Amongi, the Oyam South MP and Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, will contest the Lira City Woman MP seat, challenging Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.

Born on 15 November 1975 in Oyam District, Amongi holds a bachelor’s in Political Science and Public Administration and a master’s in International Relations from Makerere University.

Her political journey began in 2001 as Apac District Woman MP, followed by re-elections in 2006 and representing Oyam South since 2011. She served as Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (2016-2019) and Minister for Kampala Capital City before her current role since June 2021.

Amongi is married to Jimmy Akena, MP for Lira Municipality and Uganda People’s Congress President, son of former Prime Minister and President Milton Obote.

The 2026 elections promise a heated contest as these MPs pursue new political ambitions.
