Police to recruit 10,000 probationer constables: Here are the requirements

Uganda Police has announced plans to recruit 10,000 probationer police constables, according to Brig. Gen. Jesse Kamunanwire, the Director of Human Resource Management.

The recruitment is open to Ugandan citizens aged between 18 and 25.

Applicants must submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police.

These applications should include photocopies of academic documents, a photocopy of the National Identity Card, three recent passport-size photographs, an Identity Card or an Introductory Letter from the previous school, and recommendation letters from LCI, LCIII, and RDC of their respective districts.

The complete application must be delivered to the Police District or Divisional Headquarters before Friday, March 21, 2025.

To qualify, applicants must be Ugandan citizens with a valid National ID or a confirmation letter from NIRA.

They should have no criminal record, be physically and medically fit, and be prepared to undertake police training. Recruits must be ready to work long hours, sometimes under difficult conditions, and should be willing to serve in any part of the country.

Good communication skills are required, and candidates must not be serving or former officers in other security forces.

Candidates must hold a UCE certificate or its equivalent, obtained in a single sitting from 2020 onwards.

Those under the traditional grading system must have at least four credits, including either English or Mathematics, with a pass in the remaining subjects.

Under the Competency-Based System, candidates must have at least four ‘C’ grades, including either English or Mathematics, with at least a ‘D’ in the other subjects.

The police have urged eligible candidates to apply within the set deadline.
