5 viral fashions that dominated Uganda before the internet

Before the internet blew up couldn't say the word 'viral' without freaking everybody out. But the trend was there. Games were viral, new gadgets and appliances would go viral in the neighbourhood, and fashion pieces.

It is hard to imagine that was two decades ago. Yet it feels like no time has passed. As the kings of virals, time and taste dictate what goes viral when it comes to fashion. The early 2000s were beaming with urban musical and movie talent that influenced these fashion waves.

Supras

Jordans had nothing on these luxury shoes back then. Blame it on the dance movies like "Step Up", "Stomp The Yard", "Honey", dance shows, and Justin Beiber's music videos.

Scarfs

The Goodlyfe music group influenced fashion during the early stages of their career. They were loved and their urban aesthetic swept through young people like a sandstorm. The scarf, especially the checkered scarf was a cool accessory to adorn on any outfit.

Arm bangles

Speaking of accessories, the Late Goodlyfe singer Radio was notorious for his arm bangles and wristbands. His iconic forearms adorned in various colourful bangles and bands had many copycats among the youth.

Purple

It's not clear why the colour trended for a while there during the rise of the artist Ziza Bafana and Yiya Mowzey but suddenly a purple T-shirt and purple supras were the talk of the town.

Baseball caps/jackets

Perhaps these timeless pieces trend every once in a decade since they were introduced back in the 90s. But if didn't have one back then you were you even a hip-hop fan or a cool kid?
