Busia sits at the border of Uganda and Kenya in the east. It is home to over 297,600 (as of 2012) and the busy Busia town.
It has produced some of the biggest names in public service in the country such as Aggrey Abwoli, the Former Uganda Minister of Information Technology, Benjamin Joseph Odoki, the former chief justice of Uganda, Denis Onyango, Ugandan international association football goalkeeper, and Barnabas Nawangwe, Professor of Architecture and current Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, among others.
With such influence, you may wonder how these men and women rose in the ranks with a dark secret back in Busia.
Journalist Patrick Mukasa recently shared a haunting experience when he went to Busia for a burial.
Patrick Mukasa@pmukasaofficial: "I accompanied a friend to Busia when he lost his Mum. We parked the car in Busia town and jumped on Bodas that took us about 10 miles from where we left the car. He said that in their village, when a young person shows any signs of development, they bewitch u and lose everything!"
When the journalist asked the friend to leave the transportation to him, he was told that he would suffer by association with Mukasa.

However, these experiences are reportedly not limited to Busia but are witnessed by people across the country. Although they carry a superstitious tone and may not be confirmed to be true, sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry, especially in moments when your "development" is not necessary to display or when you don't feel safe.
