I don’t hate Muhoozi; he’s just not fit for president - Gen Otafiire

Gen Kahinda Otafire, the Minister of Internal Affairs has opened up once again on the bad blood between him and President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Speaking at a recent event in his home district of Mitooma, Otafiire doubled down on his resentment of Muhoozi’s presidential ambitions but insisted that there is nothing personal between the two.

Following his outburst last year in which he vowed to mobilize fellow NRA revolutionaries against Muhoozi’s candidacy, Otafiire revealed last weekend that he has been getting complaints about having a personal vendetta against the first son.

He, however, clarified that his clash with Muhoozi is only political.

There are people out there who go saying that Kahinda Otafiire hates (President) Museveni’s son. I do not personally hate him,” he said.

“What I don’t support is him becoming president. There is a difference. Kainerugaba the president’s son, I like him, but Kainerugaba the president, I don’t support him, and I cannot hide.”

Gen Otafiire first spoke out publicly against Muhoozi in late 2022, accusing him of disrespecting NRA historicals.

We know you are Museveni’s son but we shall not allow you to disrespect us,” Otafiire remarked In an interview with CBS fm in January last year.

I speak as a member of NRM and on behalf of my party…We fought so hard and shed blood to bring this democracy and we shall not let it die as we look on idly.

Otafiire’s remarks came just days after Muhoozi vowed to teach the Minister and fellow historicals a lesson.

Call us ‘mad’ people because we dare to ask the questions that even children understand. Let us teach Otafiire and his group that their time is over,” Muhoozi said in a tweet, which he later deleted.
